Holiday Math Fun With Ornaments

Hello Everyone! Thank you for visiting my blog again. The holiday season is here. There are so many amazing holiday math activities to do with your children. I want to share with you a little bit about how you can inspire math in your children using holiday decor. There are so many math activities that you can do right at home.

Counting with very young children is always a great activity. You can count ornaments, lights, flowers, candles, and really any type of holiday decoration. Another activity I love is making ten frames with ornaments. My advice would be to use plastic ornaments and not the glass ones. You do not want broken ornaments all over your home. Below is a picture of a ten frame box with small ornaments. The small ornaments may be too small for very young children, but you can also use cardboard separators with larger ornaments. Your child can do different combinations to make 10 with the little ornaments. It is a great festive activity for children learning the combinations to make 10. The accessory ten frame boxes came in a pack of two, so I was also able to make two ten frames for a total of 20 pictured below.

Two ten frame boxes to equal 20 ornaments.

You can also use the different ornament colors for groupings of 10. Ask your child how many groups of 10 they have. There are so many different concepts you can practice using fun and festive decor!

Another great activity during the holiday season is spending time with family and friends. Spending time with the people you love is one of the most wonderful things you can do. I love math so much, but I also love my family and friends too. Make time this season for the people you care about. I know it will mean a lot to them.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a math-filled New Year!
